Katherine – 7 & 8 Months Old

ImageImageImageImage

The holidays always seem to be a busy time for us, but I’m sure that’s true for many. We have done quite a bit of traveling in the last few months and have kept a pretty busy schedule. So again, I’m a little late in posting and am doing two months at a time. Sometimes, though, I’m amazed that I even get that much done! I am just in awe of and in love with our little “Princess Kate.” She is growing and changing way too fast for me! I hear so many parents say that it’s hard to keep up with “milestones” or changes in a second (or subsequent) child just because of simply having to divide your attention between two children. I seem to be enjoying and savoring the little things much more this time around. Maybe I know what to watch for and expect…maybe we’ve just slowed down a little…I’m not sure, but I’m loving seeing her explore and react to her world.

This month she learned to:
Sit up steadily
Be in a “crawling position” when put on her tummy
Almost go from sitting to crawling position/tummy
Eat solid food
Grind her teeth – not pleasant to hear! (She has two top teeth and two bottom teeth)
Pass things from hand to hand
Make the “b” sound (“buh,” “baa,” & “bah”)
Say Buh-buh (and we are pretty confident she is talking about her “Bub” Noah)
Reach for people when she wants to be held
Play peekaboo – covers her face with a little blanket and pulls it away (or waits for someone else to) and then giggles
Pick up things with her thumb and first finger
Drink from a sippy cup (some…not her favorite thing yet!)

Her favorite things this month:
Eating! She absolutely loves food! Favorites include avocados, sweet potatoes, carrots, blueberries,
beans, toast, cheese, pasta and more! She likes almost everything she tries!
Standing – she almost can fully pull herself up
Baths
Her cats, especially Maddy who gives her more attention than Cooper!
Singing during diaper changes, especially “Open Them, Shut Them”
Looking at herself and others in the mirror
Grabbing/Holding (and pulling) hair
Little tickles on her face, legs, and feet
Talking and being talked to
Her Wubanub pacifier
Taggies blanket
Her baby doll
Looking at and touching different textures and patterns, especially quilts from Gigi
Reading and turning the pages in books
Singing! She starts to sing as soon as she hears music of any kind
Shrieking with her brother
Visiting family
Watching Noah show off – she just adores her big brother!
Putting anything and everything in her mouth
Meeting new people
Mommy & Daddy
Talking
Her Hands
Her Feet

Things she hates this month:
Throwing up and diarrhea…we all “shared” a stomach bug in January

Time Flies

I had always heard that “time flies” once you have kids, and unfortunately, I think that seems to be true! I was just thinking the other day that I cannot believe it was a year ago when we found out and announced we were having another baby. As mentioned here, before we officially knew we were expecting, I had a pretty strong gut feeling there was another baby on the way. So when I found out for sure on October 4, 2012, I immediately got out my “reveal” to share with Brian and Noah – a puzzle they had to put together with a poem on it. A friend shared her pregnancy news with her husband and son using the puzzle, and as soon as I saw it (and we weren’t even ready for another baby at the time!), I knew it was what I wanted to do. After lessons were over and Brian was home, I told the boys they needed to work on a puzzle on the fridge for me. They worked for a few minutes and created this:

Image

I am not sure how well Noah understood the news at that point, but Brian was thrilled to know that we were officially going to be a family of four! We were planning on waiting to tell family in person the following weekend when they all came to visit for Noah’s birthday but then decided we didn’t want to “steal his thunder” (well, and we were so excited we couldn’t wait to tell others!), so we called/facetimed family to tell them the news. We had Noah tell them he was going to be a big brother while wearing a “big brother” shirt (that of course we had ordered ahead of time because we knew there would be a baby coming soon!). They were all excited about our news, of course, and we felt like June couldn’t be here soon enough!

Weekly, I have to remind myself to just stop and to take in the moment because time truly does fly. A year ago we had a teeny tiny poppy seed-sized baby and an almost 2 year old. Today we have a beautiful, happy 4 month old girl and an energetic, smart, and funny almost three year old little man!

Katherine – 1 Month Old

I have decided I want to chronicle Katherine’s first year of life (or more!) month by month. I wasn’t great at doing this with Noah, and I regret it. I have photos of him from each month, but I wish I had recorded more details. I was inspired by a friend’s wonderful blog. (Check out http://allforehim.blogspot.com/ when you have a chance.) I was telling Brian the other day how I seem to want to cherish every little thing even more with a second child because I now know how quickly they grow and change! It is incredible how much she grew and developed in her first month of life!  Our sweet Kate will be 2 months old this week…but, better late than never!
